After a good observation of people whom he stays close, after numerous tests and preparatory works, Cappiello summarizes spirit, character and manners of people at the twentieth century beginning, with simple and purified lines.
He looks around him and regularly draws down a posture which strikes him.
1902
Cappiello achieves entirely a special issue of "L'Assiette au Beurre" (22 drawings with legends) which he titles: "Gens du monde". It is an humorous and kind satire of the high society manners of the epoch.
As an example, here is one of the 22 drawings. The legend witch goes with it is : Letter to Grandma: "Above all don't write me any nasty things… Mummy opens all my mails".
